The holidays are a wonderful time of year - a time to be thankful for friends, family, and good health. It can also be a very challenging time of year when trying to manage your weight. Make this holiday season different...continue to practice positive, healthy behaviors. Here are some tips to help you through:
Eat before you go - when you have an event or party, have a shake with fruit or entree with veggies before you go. You will arrive full and be less likely to nibble here and there, avoiding hundreds of extra calories.
Fill your plate with fruits and veggies - Make sure your plate is colorful and includes plenty of fruits and vegetables - they will fill you up and provide great nutrition while keeping calories low! Strive for 8 to 9 servings per day during the holidays.
Avoid the cheese and crackers, dips, and other condiments - These items can add hundreds of calories on to your daily intake without you even realizing it. Avoid high calorie dips and sauces and bring your own salad dressing - we love the Wishbone Spritzers!
Don't drink your calories - Holiday drinks can add hundreds of empty calories. Try a new hot or cold shake recipe or opt for sparkling water with lemon or lime!
Going out for a day of shopping? - Be sure to plan ahead. Pack healthy snacks such as cut up fruit, veggies, HMR BeneFit bars, and HMR 70+ pudding (mixes up quickly and easily). Also, don't forget your water!
Avoid the food court - Avoiding the food court as much as possible will save you tons of calories. If you will be eating out, check out http://www.calorieking.com/ or the restaurant's website and investigate the nutrition content of their menu. Make smart choices!
Do Physical Activity - Make sure to plan in physical activity each and every day...add an extra bout on days when you can - even an extra 10 - 15 minute walk! Be consistent and keep moving!!
